Acknowledge the disease
In the clinic, top priority is given to taking the patient with all his or her limitations seriously. The vocational biography guides the therapy. This increases mobility and quality of life and conveys a conscious way of dealing with the illness. Of great importance to the success of the treatment is also the high recreational value offered by a variety of establishments locally and in close proximity, as well as the friendly, comfortable and hypoallergenic rooms. "Because our therapeutic philosophy incorporates the interaction between mind, body and soul", explains Chief Physician Dr. Nicola Kotschy-Lang, MD. The welfare of the patients is taken care of by a 90-person team - including seven doctors and the Chief Physician. Every year, some 1,350 patients from all over Germany are cared for. The clinic has 127 beds.

Lung and respiratory diseases
The work consists of the diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of occupational lung and respiratory diseases. Patients are generally suffering from silicosis, asbestosis, chronic obstructive bronchitis and obstructive respiratory diseases caused by allergens or chemicals. As part of aftercare, in particular patients with bronchial carcinomas caused, for example, by ionising radiation (in the underground mining of uranium for Wismut, a former Soviet-German public limited company) or asbestos are cared for.

Research for better skin protection
Since 2005, the facility has also welcomed patients with occupational dermatosis. This became possible because Clinic Falkenstein participated in a research project run by the “Hauptverbandes der gewerblichen Berufsgenossenschaften” (Federation of Institutions for Statutory Accident Insurance and Prevention) on "Medical Vocational Rehabilitation Procedures - Skin".
