Around the clock - whatever happens

Trauma Hospital Berlin (ukb) begun operations in September 1997 in Berlin-Marzahn. The modern building is located in parkland which has been used for medical purposes for more than 100 years. The ukb is an academic teaching hospital and provides general medical care: all 538 beds are included in the state hospital schedule. more ...

Radiology:
an important partner in emergency and routine care

At the Institute of Radiology of the ukb, a wide range of diagnostics and therapy is offered, including a 64-line CT scanner. The completely digitised Radiology is also a good basis for using teleradiology to cooperate with other hospitals. Due to interventional radiology, in which ultra-thin catheters are advanced into various blood vessels, complex, emergency and routine open surgery can be partially avoided. This technique is used, for example, for vascular malformations in the brain (aneurysm) or bleeding from the abdominal organs.

Award-winning communication in the ukb

The ukb constantly strives to improve the satisfaction of patients. A measure taken in the year under review was the intensive training of, in particular, doctors and nurses by the German Institute for Communication and Training in Health Care (DIKTiG). The objective was to improve the relationship between patients and hospital staff through patient-oriented communication. This led to the ukb not only being awarded the Gold Medal for the "Service Provider" category but also the "International Training Award 2006 for Communication in the Hospital" at Europe's largest education fair, DIDAKTA 2006.

Public relations

The Trauma Hospital Berlin maintains contact with the public, inter alia, in the form of regular Sunday lectures which cover general medical topics of interest. In this way, the visitors are informed about the current state of medicine and the latest research results. Due to the large number of bathing accidents among young people, with the life-changing outcome of paralysis, the ukb cooperated with an agency in the creation and publishing of a movie spot in which young people were made aware of the issue, because in a fraction of a second everything changes - for life.

The Society for the Promotion and development of Art and Culture regularly organises exhibitions and music performances.
