Centres of excellence for outpatients
Against this background, accident insurance institutions are increasingly requiring that their trauma treatment centres provide support in the development of medical quality in their therapeutic methods - especially in more complex patterns of injury. Thus, the trauma treatment centres provide a wide - in the reporting year significantly extended - range of special consultations (for example, hand, foot, psychological trauma, prostheses), in which the accident insurance institutions manage their insured members. In particular, focus is placed on two groups. For insured members with problem diagnoses, where experience shows that the inability to work will last for a longer period, the qualified doctors of the trauma treatment centres should establish a treatment approach and thus ensure rapid reintegration into working life.
The second group consists of insured members whose treatment, which has been conducted outside the auspices of the professional associations, has led to significant interruptions. Here, it is the task of the trauma treatment centres to bring treatment to a conclusion as soon as possible.
The trauma treatment centres also place importance on outpatient rehabilitation (such as endurance tests, physiotherapy exercises, water aerobics) - in close conjunction with the medical care. The trauma treatment centres are also committed to prevention, such as in the scope of back training designed to prevent injury to the spine at the workplace.
A "patient school" was established in 2005. Here, the injured party is given theoretical and practical information on the best way to deal with or effectively offset the permanent physical limitations.
The Skin Protection Centre Berlin is also situated in the Trauma Treatment Centre Berlin. In conjunction with several professional associations and accident insurance institutions uniform procedures have been developed for the treatment of occupational diseases.
