State-of-the-art equipment, such as a CT scanner, which is able to generate high-quality images in seconds for optimisation of the diagnostics for polytraumatised patients, makes this possible. In the BG clinics, severely injured patients are initially cared for in the shock room or the interdisciplinary intensive care unit in close cooperation between the various specialist units. A well rehearsed team ensures optimum treatment for the acute consequences of the injury. Nearly 90 percent of all trauma injuries require immediate and often multiple operations. Statistics on the treatment of patients with multiple injuries (polytraumatised) show that the prognosis is better if they are taken to a trauma centre immediately, which is what the BG clinics are.
