In general, the BG clinics have the necessary capacity for particularly severe injuries. The trauma surgery departments of the BG clinics are responsible for the primary care of patients as part of preclinical care on the ground, in the air (intensive transportation helicopter, ITH), and subsequently in the central rescue centre with interdisciplinary admittance unit. The rapid progress in the area of trauma and reconstructive surgery is implemented every day. This is particularly true for the highly specialised surgical techniques, as well as for the aftercare from the first day forward through physiotherapy and occupational therapy. The range of trauma and reconstructive surgery spans all acute injuries and their consequences, according to the way in which they occur after an occupational or traffic accident. Treatment such as the insertion of artificial joints in the event of signs of wear is also conducted.
