Centre of service and excellence for the statutory accident insurance
In conjunction with the professional associations' district administrations of northern Germany, which has supported the development of the BUKH through an advisory board, the range of services offered by the BUKH has been gradually brought into line with the requirements of the statutory accident insurance. This includes special consulting hours in all departments, in which administrators and patients are advised by the doctors of the BUKH on the further course of treatment and cure. Treatment of children who have been injured in an accident is, in cooperation with a children's hospital and under the technical supervision of BUKH, also part of the standard range of care, as well as pain therapy, the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorders and the test in evaluating the functional capacity (EFL) as well as many other services. A special emphasis is also on supplying statutory accident insurance patients with appliances. This leads to savings in excess of EUR 3 million for the financially accountable parties. Services such as a visiting and advisory team for paraplegics and neurological patients, decubitus prophylaxis, and a trauma hotline, which is manned 24 hours a day, round off the range offered by the BUKH. The verification of DRG cost balancing on behalf of the statutory accident insurance, as well as hearing aid counselling and supply, are included. These exemplary projects show their success through the very high utilisation of the hospital by statutory accident insurance patients. The proportion of statutory accident insurance patients throughout the hospital is over 60%. Based on the core areas of trauma surgery, hand surgery and neurology, occupancy by statutory accident insurance patients even exceeds 75%.
