For Duisburg, 2005 was the year of cooperation and expansion for forward-looking medical care
The General Trauma Surgery performs the surgical and conservative treatment of injuries to the extremities, pelvis and spine, likewise, implantation of endoprostheses in the hip, knee and shoulder joints, as well as the elbow and ankle joints. In particular, modern computer navigation makes the implantation of artificial knee joints possible with the highest degree of precision. In addition, joint preservation and arthroscopic operations are performed as well as reconstructive surgery after an accident. Another trauma surgery discipline is covered by the Department of Hand Surgery, Plastic Surgery and Burns Injuries. In addition to the acute care of hand injuries of all degrees of severity, the function of the hands is restored through the transplantation of nerves and tendons. In plastic surgery, emphasis is placed on reconstructive plastic surgery. Six ideally equipped special intensive beds are available for burns injuries in fully air-conditioned wards. Alongside the surgical and care units, the clinic operates numerous, state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment, a variety of treatment facilities for early mobilisation aftercare and contemporary rehabilitation as well as a comprehensive, 24 hour outpatient clinic. A magnetic resonance tomograph was placed into operation in the clinic in cooperation with a resident radiologist in the spring of 2005.
