Around the clock - whatever happens
The ukb has a special nationwide focus on trauma medicine. This lies in the very close cooperation between the Department of Trauma and Reconstructive Surgery, headed by Prof. Axel Ekkernkamp, MD and the Department of Hand and Microsurgery, as well as the Neurosurgery, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Anaesthesiology, Intensive Care and Pain Therapy clinics. Doctors and nurses at the ukb are prepared for major catastrophes and disaster situations in the capital and surrounding area at all times. Another area of focus is the Centre for Severe Burns Injuries with Plastic Surgery and the Centre for Spinal Cord Injuries. Both institutions provide care at a national level.
Beyond that, the Department of Internal Medicine, with two advanced cardiac catheterisation laboratories, and the Departments of Neurology, Urology, Surgery and ENT Medicine round off the ukb's care programme for emergency patients. Severely injured and other emergency patients can be admitted into the ukb in the shortest possible time via two heliports, which are located on the roof of the trauma hospital. Around the clock - whatever happens - a highly qualified team is ready to treat trauma injuries.
